Separate Tracks

This is the third and final episode in a three part series by Emily Dobbins-Dale, documenting my hitchhiking journey from Hungary through Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania, before finally parting ways with Leah after more than one year of continuously exploring together. It was a very emotional time for both of us (and not just because our cottage caught fire).

This video was shown on national UK TV along with Pedal (cycling from UK to Slovakia on £30 bicycles) and Paddle (rafting down the Danube – like pirates).

Thank-you once again Emily for your awesome editing.

Check out Emily’s site here: www.emilydobbinsdale.com (if you need to hire a video editor, I HIGHLY reccomend her)

Hey mate. Just want to say that i can not describe how ridiculously similar you and your American girlfriends year was with mine. We had literally done all that you both did, Hitchhiked, Slept rough all the time, Spent nothing each day, Met amazing people, Saw great sites that people would pay big bucks for not knowing you dont need to spend loads to see them, fell in love together meeting in a random country, had such a unique loving experience everywhere. I was (and am) very similar to you, i am care free… and my motto is ‘well im not going to die, ill be alright.’ … and Ally (my ex, Also from the states, being together for a year and a half), was just like your girlfriend was as you said, Scared, frightened to be alone… then once we met, she changed, and it was amazing! Its sort of Indescribable the experience you have with that person let alone the amazing travel experience you have together because its full of happiness, freedom, and laughter. The day i had to drop Ally off to Heathrow was also numbing! .. Worst experience i have ever experience in my life, but after a while of being around my loved one back home, that’s it… im going to go back out, and do it again. biking it this time, Down to the south of portugal. The ride looks fantastic and i ave always wanted to go.. Why not!? i have like 2K.. but you and me both know (and alot of people think im crazy).. nothing is impossible.
If you are ever in Bath , I would be a pleasure to have a few drinks with you!
Take care mate, And on behalf of a lot of people out there, Thank you for making this website.

    Olly.

Awesome story Olly, thanks for sharing. Your bike ride sounds like one hell of a lot of fun. And 2k will last a very long time. Check out Alastair Humphreys who cycled around the world on less than 2k per year. I’ve never made it to Bath yet, but one day I might swing that way. Happy cycling.

Several months after Separate Tracks, I got on a plane and flew to Korea where she was teaching English. I ended up staying there a lot longer longer than originally intended!
