What Can You Do In One Week With £100?

I have a new idea that encompasses multiple ideas, but not enough ideas to fill that bigger idea, thus I need your help for more ideas – bit of a mouthful, eh?

Allow me to elaborate.

The Idea

Starting in the UK (ideally), I wish to undertake a series of adventures that can be completed in the maximum time of one week with a maximum budget of one hundred pounds.

Why?

I often undertake journeys with no time limit and with no defined budget – I survive with the little I have. Increasingly I get questions from people who are looking to undertake their own journeys, but most people (understandably) are not willing (or able) to donate unspecified amounts of time or spend all of their money – nor are they willing to travel with no money at all. Thus I would like to share a series of adventures that can be replicated by people who live ‘conventional’ lives*, increasing the accessibility of the stories that I share.

*Note: I am using the standard of what is considered conventional in the UK – everyone gets at least one week off a year and can save one hundred pounds by putting aside two pounds a week.

Requirements (Rules) of Each Adventure

Each adventure that I undertake must comply with the following rules:

  • It must take no more than one week
  • It must cost no more than one hundred pounds**
  • It must offer a strong sense of enjoyment or achievement (ideally both)
  • I must be able to start in Europe

There are no rules to movement, physical exertion, or anything else. However I wish for each adventure to be accessible for people of varying levels of fitness and skill. As I spread myself thin across many pursuits, I am not particularly skilled at anything and do not have a super high level of fitness, thus the danger of requiring vast quantities of skill or levels of fitness are largely eliminated. Ultimately this notion resonates strongly with the need to use a small amount of money (by UK standards) and take a small amount of time, making the experience accessible for others.

I request that the journeys must begin in Europe (ideally the UK), because I assume most people have a home base and while I do not, I will be visiting my family in the UK and would like to show a series of adventures that are accessible from one location. Flights are expensive after all.

**Note: I will allow myself to utilise my existing equipment which currently consists of a backpack, a sleeping bag, a tent, a hammock, and clothes. Everything else that I need to purchase will be included in this one hundred pound price limit. Depending on what it is, I may also utilise the borrowing of things if widely available for others to borrow too.

What is an Adventure?

To me, primarily, an adventure is anything new and exciting. Ideally it will also push me a little physically or mentally, but this is not a necessity. Very importantly, I want to do things that I will look back on in the future and say, ‘That week of my life mattered – it was memorable and it means something to me.’ The experience doesn’t have to be life changing, nor does it have to make the world a better place – it just has to make my existence a little more pleasurable.

Who Will I Do These Adventures With and When?

I return to the UK at the start of May and from that point, my plans are undecided, but I hope to undertake these journeys over the coming months, dependent upon what else I am doing in life. Unfortunately I am no longer at a point where I can donate continuous months to this project, but I will fit them in around my life and I will bring along people who are around me at the appropriate times. I aim to share these experiences through a combination of social media updates, Youtube videos (see my channel and subscribe), and blog posts. I do not like documentation to become the main purpose of any adventure, but I do see sharing as an important part of these particular experiences and will share what I feel is appropriate to portray the feel of the adventure and promote its accessibility.

My Ideas

Here are a few things I have thought of to get the ball rolling, incorporating a combination of things I have and have not tried before.

  • Building a tree house and living in it
  • Obtaining and riding a bicycle to a given location
  • Hitchhiking to a desired location (such as Trolltunga, in the featured image)
  • Learning a new skill by volunteering in a relevant setting
  • Building a floating home and living in it (without getting arrested)
  • Riding an inflatable object to the sea
  • Roller blading an extended distance
  • Experience perpetual sunlight

The list is limitless and there is no such thing as an original idea, so please, scroll down and share your own ideas with me.

Do You Have Any Ideas?

Please share any ideas that you may have using the comment box below. (You can also email me if you wish, but the comments would be great to keep all the ideas in one place.) They don’t need to be mind blowing – you can steal them from other things you have seen – and all ideas are appreciated, including generic ideas such as those listed above (you don’t have to be location specific).

I hope this turns out to be fun.

You could volunteer to help building a castle in France.

How about climbing Snowdon via the Crib Goch route? You don’t really need any climbing experience as its a scrambling route, and since it’s still the hardest route you still get a real sense of achievement!

Great idea – I just Googled the route and it looks like a lot of fun. Last time I went up Snowden, we ended up walking along a path which wasn’t what I had planned, but we did have some nice climbs up two other peaks nearby.

I’d hire/borrow a kayak and go around the Swedish archipelago outside Stockholm around midsummer.

That sounds like a very fun idea, I like it.
