Trolltunga, meaning Troll’s Tongue is a rock in Norway that juts out from a cliff face, seven hundred metres above the lake below and has been that way for around ten thousand years. To reach the rock, you have to hike for at least eleven kilometres – there are no roads that go closer.
This may simultaneously be one of the most epic and beautiful places I have ever been witness to. Nature you have outdone yourself.
Having to hitchhike for several days, hike for many hours, and sleep outside with less sleeping bags than people made the experience all the more rewarding.
This page is simply pictures of Trolltunga, but you can read the journey to Trolltunga stories by clicking below:
Part one: Hitchhiking to the edge of the world. Four people, one guitar, many miles.
Part two: Hiking to the edge of the world. Eleven kilometres of climbing and banana poisoning.
Part three: Sleeping at the edge of the world. A cold, cold night and a moral dilemma.
The pictures can never do this place justice. It is truly amazing.
It’s pretty, right?
Hi, is it possible to sleep at Trolltunga ? I mean really at the top, not during the hike.
Yes it is. There is an unmanned hut with beds and a donation box at the top, but it is quite expensive, so we did what everyone else was doing and just camped at the top. I didn’t have a tent so I just slept on the ground which was a bit cold, but there were about 5 or 10 tents nearby.
It’s a great fun to read all your stories about Norway. Actually I’m also going to have a low budget trip there in June, is there a possibility to repost the photos above here so we can see them properly :)?
Cheers
I hope that you enjoy it – it is a very beautiful country. You can view my pictures in larger sizes on Flickr.
