Cycling Around Jeju

If there is a best way to travel around Jeju, I would have to say that it is by bicycle. I have done it twice now, just to make sure. First I did it with one friend, stopping to drink some beers along the way, then with a group of friends, stopping to swim and jump off fences. Having a circumference of a couple of hundred kilometres, it is a pleasant two day ride, but can be done in one if you are a killer cyclist, or more than two if you like to trundle. On both my circumnavigations, I cycled half of the island each day.

This is a little taste of cycling around Jeju. Don’t think about it too much, don’t plan it, just get a bicycle and do it. Stick to the coast roads when you can and you will have a great time. Happy cycling.

I am planning a trip there in early aug this year. Heard it may not be the best time to cycle there because of the hot and humid weather, as well as being typhoon season. But I wanna go during that time so the water will be warm enough for swimming. SO shld I risk it?

The summer is super warm and humid, but if you’re there, go, enjoy it, and the water should be lovely.

Great idea! I think this is how I will spend one of my long weekends off while teaching in Korea. Did you rent bikes or bring your own?

I bought a decent second hand bike in Seogwipo – there is a little shop with a friendly man who fixes up old bikes and sells them on. People also sell a lot of bikes through the FB groups. Have fun!
