We Really Did It (England to Slovakia on Old Bicycles)

To the policewoman in Amsterdam who arrested us and called us stupid,

To the man in the fancy German bike shop who didn’t want to help me fix my battered old bike,

But most of all to all you wonderful people who offered words of support,

WE DID IT!

We really did it.

Almost a month ago, myself and two great people purchased old bicycles (costing £30 each) and then attached all manner of backpacks and cool boxes to the outside of them. Then we got on these bicycles and we rode them from England to Slovakia (see the map). We rode the flats of Holland, climbed mountains in Germany, enjoyed Czech beer, slept under bridges (on beaches, in parks, in abandoned buildings etc), whizzed through Austria… and then we arrived in Slovakia to a warm welcome.

Was it difficult? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Could anyone do this? Of course they can.

Right now, I must take a shower for the fourth time in a month, wash (or burn) my foul clothes, and sit down. Photos, videos, and stories will follow after sleep.

P.S. The train comes from a special story. Do you know it?

P.P.S. This is only part one of the big adventure. Part 2, Pirates of the Danube comes next!
