Tandem Riding on Udo

Have you ever ridden a tandem bicycle? Generally I think that they are awful beasts and stay well away. As many things in life deserve, I gave them a second chance and rented one on a small South Korean island named Udo. This time around, it was rather fun.

When people think of islands, they generally think of peace and tranquility: an escape from their busy lives. I currently live on an island named Jeju that lies south of South Korea (it recently hit the news for all the wrong reasons due to the tragic sinking of a ferry en route here). It is nicknamed the ‘Hawaii of Korea’ and while that may be an overly bold claim (although I have never been to Hawaii), it is quite a nice place to be.

However, as humans are bound to do, we always want more. Leaving this island, I headed to Udo in search of a smaller island (less than 2,000 people). There I was met with several places offering quad bikes or scooters for rent. Instead, I chose to ride a tandem along with Leah (this story tells you who she is). We were greeted by soft white beaches, volcanic rocks, and pretty flowers. Despite the bike being in poor condition and too small for my non-Korean frame, it was a wonderful ride and below are some images of Udo.

If you ever find yourself in this part of the world, I highly recommend this as a fun few (ridiculous) hours.
